Many young people have a full poorly defined neckline which can be dramatically helped by liposuction to removes fat and tighten the skin, drawing it back into better defined angle with the chin.

However, older patients may have a 'turkey neck' or 'wattle' that may need extra tightening of skin and remodelling of the underlying platysma muscle. This is reliably achieved with the Cadogan Clinic Swan Neck procedure; a combination of an ultra thin laser fibre placed just below the surface of the skin, liposuction and removal of loose skin on the neck.

However if the the jawline has developed jowls, a modification of the facelift will treat both concerns at the same time.

A neck lift can also be combined with fat transfer to fill and sculpt the neck and jawline, however a bespoke treatment plan will be decided upon in consultation with one of our consultant plastic surgeons.

Frequently Asked Questions

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will give you pre-operative advice which may include stopping smoking or taking aspirin or any other medication prior to your surgery to ensure optimum healing.

Patients undergoing the Cadogan Clinic Swan Neck procedure will only have stitches under the chin which are camoflagued with tape, meaning they can continue with their normal day to day duties. Stitches are removed after a week, and there will be a small scar under the chin which will not be readily visible and can be covered with makeup. Like all scars, it will take some months to mature, but it is unlikely that the scar will be noticed by friends.

Patients that have the modified face lift to improve the jaw line, as well as the neck, can continue desk work within a day or two, but there are bruises and stitches which are removed over two weeks. Minor bruising and swelling will subside at the same rate.

Patients undergoing the Cadogan Clinic Swan Neck procedure will be treated as a day case usually under local anaesthesia. Light dressings on the neck may be reduced further in a day or two and the stitches removed a week later. Pain is minimal.

The modified face lift is more likely to be carried under the general anaesthesia technique called TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia), our preferred anaesthetic technique and will need a dressing change the following day.

There is a little bruising which settles over 10 days and all stitches are removed by 2 weeks.

Working from home will be possible within 2 days of surgery.

Neck tightening surgery is not an especially painful procedure though you may experience discomfort due to the tight feeling of the skin. Pain relief can be provided by your surgeon if required.

Prices for a neck lift start from £4200, however every individual is different and an accurate price will be determined, depending on your individual needs, upon consultation with your surgeon.

A'Turkey Neck' or 'wattle' refers to the loose skin hanging down under the chin which occurs due to weight loss or ageing. This happens as when we become older, our skin loses its elasticity causing it to sag. Neck lift surgery or platysmaplasty at Cadogan Cosmetics is a way of reducing and tightening this loose neck skin for a more youthful and refreshed look.

Recovery time for this procedure will depend on the individual patient but we usually advise that you take around two weeks off work following surgery as there will be bruising and swelling which may take around 10 days to subside. Depending on the case, this procedure may require an overnight stay in a nearby hotel that the clinic has good links with, as your surgeon will want to see you the next day. In the next few weeks as you heal, smoother skin on the neck will be revealed and any minimal, discreet incision scars will fade.

Neck lift surgery is carried out regularly as Cadogan Clinic, and any risks are the same as with any other surgical procedure that involves a general anaesthetic if this is the option you are having. There are no specific risks to be concerned about, but your surgeon will explain the neck surgery procedure to you in detail.

A neck lift (sometimes known as a platysmaplasty) is a surgical procedure which is usually carried out under general anaesthetic to remove any loose skin along the jaw and neck for a smoother, tighter and more youthful appearance.

This procedure is effective alone but is often combined with a face lift for significant results. Your surgeon will discuss this with you in your initial consultation and recommend what is best for your individual case.

We use a variant of the general anaesthesia technique called TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia) that is delivered by our team of top anaesthetists. Intravenous delivery enables our anaesthetist team to monitor anaesthetic depth more closely via specialized computers to maintain an optimal level of anaesthesia. This means you will wake up feeling much better than with traditional alternatives and ready to go home shortly after.
